We had a very nice turnout for the Closing of the Greens on October 12th. Congratulations to Jim Davies (2008 Golfer
of the Year) and to all of the other award winners. Thank you Don & Ian for a great meal, Rich Jovan for planning such a
nice event and Matt and the Pro Shop staff for a great golf season. I would also like to thank Tom and Mark again for
continuing to provide us with the best conditioned golf course in the area.
The President's Ball, honoring past President Barry Craig, will be held on November 8th. Chef Don has created an
outstanding menu for this event and entertainment will be provided by "Five Guys Named Moe". I hope to see all of you
there. Check the calendar for all upcoming events and don't forget to make your reservations early.
The Pennsylvania Clean Indoor Air Act ("CIAA") went into effect on September 11, 2008 and regulates smoking in public
places and workplaces. Private clubs, as defined in the legislation, are exceptions to the general rule provided that the
organization must take and record a vote of its officers to address smoking in the private club's facilities. The Board of
Governors voted to continue to permit smoking in the 19th hole only. However, under the CIAA, the entire facility must
become non-smoking whenever it is open to the public for a club-sponsored event such as exchange days, or used for a
private event that is not club sponsored, such as weddings, birthday parties, anniversary parties, meetings, conferences,
etc. The CIAA does not restrict a club from allowing members to bring guests into the club during times that smoking is
permitted. It also does not restrict outdoor smoking but recommends that smoking be located 20 feet away from building
entrances. This is a complex law that will be difficult to administer. We appreciate your cooperation.
As I reported last month, cart and pedestrian crossing signs will be erected along Route 982 to slow the traffic and enable
us to cross more safely. A digital thermostat with remote sensors has been installed in the 19th hole and should provide a
more evenly controlled temperature environment.
As another reminder, please provide your email address to Marilynn in the business office as soon as possible. This will
help us to provide you information on upcoming events on a timely basis.
Respectfully Submitted,
Dave Angelicchio
President
